Handicaps

Each player will receive a handicap upon joining the Golf Section.

A new member should play 3 rounds of golf on an 18 hole course with an existing member of the Golf Section. They should then provided 3 signed cards to the Handicap Committee prior to the first outing. A handicap will then be posted on the Notice Board.

Failure to provide 3 signed cards will result in a new member being given a provisional handicap of 5!

Handicaps will be reviewed at the start of the season and thereafter every 2 outings. However, members must turn up and play at each outing if they expect to have their handicap reviewed. The maximum handicap for the Golf Section is set at 28.

CUT

There are obviously various reason why a member might have their handicap reduced during a season. The main reason for this is to create an opportunity for everyone to win something. As a general rule of thumb, here are the main reasons for reducing a members handicap:

  • Outing Winner with Handicap Greater than 19 – (-3)
  • Outing Winner with Handicap between 11 and 19 – (-2)
  • Outing Winner with Handicap 10 or below – (-1)

Any additional strokes that a member records under par [NET] for a round, will also be subtracted from their handicap, i.e., if the par for a course is 70 and you have a net score [your actual score minus your handicap] of 65, then an additional 5 strokes would be subtracted from your handicap. THIS RULE APPLIES WHETHER YOU WON THE OUTING OR NOT!!!

On occasion you may also be cut for improved play. Easy examples of this are a member winning 2 outings or a member showing a vast improvement.

INCREASE

After every 2nd outing the Handicap Committee will review the handicaps. Some members may be increased as a result of this review. However, it should be noted that members will not be increased solely because they have not won an outing. Increases are sometimes awarded to members who have shown consistently high scores. It should also be noted that if members have won outings or are still returning reasonable scores it is likely that they will NOT be reviewed.
